We asked Jordan and Anthony Johnson, sponsors of 4 African Vision of Hope students, what they would share with anyone considering sponsoring a child. Here is what they had to say.
“I first learned about African Vision of Hope from my grandfather who had gone on a mission trip with African Vision of Hope. As he shared about the orphaned and vulnerable children, I could see and feel his passion. He was speaking to my heart and I made a decision to also go on a mission trip. I saw children that would never have access to school without child sponsorship. I saw how excited they were to know that they had a sponsor and what it means for them to know that someone is praying for them and cares for them. ”
“As a result of my personal testimony from working with African Vision of Hope, my husband and I have recently committed to sponsoring four children. We’re teachers and are passionate about providing children with opportunities for academic, emotional, and spiritual growth. Most weekends we have a to-do list a mile long, and last weekend was no different. Regardless, we decided to make introducing ourselves and writing to our sponsor children a priority. The minutes ticked away and we became restless while writing. It’s harder than you may think, writing a letter to someone on the other side of the world whom you have never met! In the moments when we felt like setting the letters aside unfinished, the Lord spoke to our spirits. John 3:30 came to mind; “He must become greater; I must become less.” In light of the daily hardships that most Zambian children face, the minor “inconvenience” of taking time out of our busy schedules to write our sponsor children letters is embarrassingly incomparable. We were reminded that the sacrifice of our time and attention is certainly minor in magnitude of the ultimate selflessness of Christ, who laid down His life for us. We count it as joy to invest into the lives of Jessica, Easton, Ruth and Happy….our sponsor children. Upon finishing our letters to all four children, we were overwhelmed with the kind of joy that only comes from God. We’re humbled to be given the opportunity to extend the love of Christ to impressionable boys and girls across the world. Sharing our faith, encouraging scriptures, prayers, and our hearts with four children, who’ve been rescued out of poverty, is an investment in eternity. In our home, that will forever be considered time well spent.”
Thanks to Jordan and Anthony’s generosity, these four children have been taken from poverty to possibility. Sponsor a child and change a life forever.
