St. Louis, MO (September 2, 2025) African Vision of Hope is hosting its 25th Anniversary Gala Sept. 25, and two very special guests will attend this year’s event. 
 
Longtime African Vision of Hope supporter and movie star Dennis Quaid and his wife Laura will be attending as VIP guests. The gala benefits African Vision of Hope’s mission to bring immediate and lasting solutions to children and families living in extreme poverty in Zambia, Africa. 
 
“When I started African Vision of Hope with my husband Bob 25 years ago, it was just a small step toward a mission we truly believe in,” Founder Judi Bertels said. “It’s special to see how much it has grown over the past two and a half decades. African Vision of Hope is ensuring children can grow up safe and healthy, receive education, learn critical life skills and find restoration in Christ.”
 
African Vision of Hope operates nine school campuses, where more than 5,900 students receive Christ-centered education daily in Zambia. The organization also has four rescue home communities, providing a safe haven for 300 vulnerable children daily. In June 2025, African Vision of Hope fed 24,052 children every day in the country. The nonprofit provides nutritious meals, clean water, critical medical care, quality education and the hope of the gospel. Dennis and Laura Quaid have traveled to Zambia as part of the organization.

African Vision of Hope also provides university and seminary scholarships for 118 students, giving them an opportunity to continue their education at the next level and become leaders in their country. The organization employs 189 teaching staff and has 242 total staff members.
 
The 25th Anniversary Gala will take place at the Royal Sonesta Chase Park Plaza and begins with a private VIP event at 5 p.m., with the opening cocktail hour starting at 6 p.m. The gala will feature a dinner and program, concluding with a musical performance by Dennis Quaid. A silent auction will also take place during the gala.
