In October of 1998, a group of young men called “the Zambian Acapella Boys” were brought to the USA by an American organization. They were here to sing and raise money for their education. The Zambian Boys came to the church of Bob and Judi Bertels, who had the privilege of hosting a couple of the singers in their home for the weekend. The men were young and unfamiliar with America, our culture, customs, laws and language.
The organization that brought them to the USA had them perform across the country while earning large sums of money. However, the boys and their families back in Zambia never received the money or education they were promised and Immigration stepped in to put a stop what was found to be human trafficking. From here, a ripple effect began.
